Melissa Sobotka with her “Silk Road Sampler” that recently won the Master Award for Innovative Artistry at this year Houston International Quilt Festival.

This is an awesome opportunity to attend a workshop with Melissa and experience her amazing realistic pictorial quilts that are world renown.
Melissa will be here from Texas USA to teach her “Realistic Applique Techniques workshop”

Melissa’s quilting is expressed through a photo realistic style that draws on her love of the old masters paintings and art history. Much of her work is influenced by her travels and spirituality. The imagery is created by appliqueing numerous pieces of raw edge batiks and then enhancing then with inks to give them greater depth.

“My vision is to be a catalyst for viewers to see with new eyes the beauty and depth around us”

Melissa’s art quilts have been well received, being juried into several National and International shows where the work has received many top awards. Her art has been awarded the Best of Show in the Houston International Quilt Festival, Mancuso’s World Quilt Show and Mid Atlantic, American Quilters Society Quilt week and Road to California.
“Quilting has become my passion, but occasionally you can find me still creating professional costuming, decorating interiors and teaching”
