I’m a full-time artist and tutor. I teach jewellery making, acrylic painting and wearable art projects as well as a variety of textile classes all over Australia and overseas. My Art Practise includes body adornment jewellery, surface design in fabric journal making, creative art quilts and unique fashion accessories. My world revolves around colour, the more the better. I’m an avid recycler and encourage my students to re purpose rather than buy new.

Desert Dreaming Bag
This workshop is all about having fun and being creative. The inspiration from the surrounding environment will get your creative juices flowing. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never painted before, in this class we all work on the same piece of fabric, making marks to loosen up and avoid the blank canvas syndrome. The fabric is then divided up and each person adds their own colours and shapes to make their piece unique to them. If you’d rather create your own piece of fabric from the start, that’s OK too. You can have a blank piece of fabric and go for it.
When the painting is finished more fun starts. You can add free machine motion and hand stitching to build up your design.
The choice is then yours to create one of two bag designs. A large one that has multiple uses, from carrying your sewing, knitting or craft supplies or for taking with you when you shop.
The second choice is a smaller bag, with unique invisible seams combining the outside fabric and lining together as one. This bag is great when you only ned to take the essentials eg. phone, purse, keys etc. With the small bag there will be sufficient fabric left over to make your own iPad, tablet or laptop cover.
Both of these bags when finished are very light in weight.
You will have pieces of fabric left over so, if you want to add more decoration to your bag, I will show you how to make fabric beads and leaves.
If you decide that you don’t want to cut up your fabulous piece of fabric, you can still add lots of stitching and turn it into a piece of art to hang on your wall.
Don’t forget, in this workshop you get to take home your own beautiful BERNINA 215 Art Skin Sewing machine.
